The DFEH is the state agency charged with enforcing California’s civil rights laws. The mission of the Department of Fair Employment and Housing is to protect the people of California from unlawful discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations and from hate violence. The DFEH is the largest state civil rights enforcement agency in the country.
The DFEH receives, investigates and initiates individual and systemic discrimination complaints in its five offices throughout California. DFEH’s Legal Division litigates individual, class, group and systemic cases in all California jurisdictions, including state and federal courts. It also leads education and outreach efforts to civil rights stakeholders. DFEH’s Legal Division employs over thirty attorneys and staff throughout California.
