AABA LAW FOUNDATION


For over 30 years, the AABA Law Foundation has provided scholarships and grants to law students committed to the AANHPI and other underserved communities. In 2023, the Foundation awarded $100,000 in scholarships and grants including:

  • The $10,000 Justice Harry W. Low Fellowship funded by the Family and Friends of Justice Harry W. Low;

  • The $10,000 Garrick S. Lew Fellowship funded by the Minami, Tamaki, Yamauchi, Kwok and Lee Foundation;
  • The $10,000 Salle Yoo and Jeff Gray Charitable Foundation summer grants/scholarships for a $5,000 summer public interest/public service grant and a $5,000 summer judicial externship grant;
  • The $5,000 Raymond L. Ocampo Jr. Family Scholarship;
  • The $5,000 Joe Morozumi Scholarship funded by Dale Minami, Joan Haratani, Michael Lee, Christine Noma, and AABA members/donors, including past recipients of the Joe Morozumi Award for Exceptional Legal Advocacy;
  • The $5,000 Asian Pacific American Judges’ Scholarship funded by Asian American judges in the Bay Area and AABA members/donors;
  • The $5,000 Chao-Fujioka Scholarship for International Law funded by Cedric Chao and Judge Margaret Fujioka (Alameda County);

  • The $5,000 Chao-Fujioka Scholarship for Public Law and Government Service funded by Cedric Chao and Judge Margaret Fujioka (Alameda County);

  • The $5,000 Puri Family Scholarship funded by Judge Vedica Puri (San Francisco County), and matched by the Foundation and AABA members;

  • The $5,000 AABA Law Foundation Scholarship funded by AABA members/donors;
  • The $5,000 Change Lawyers 3L Diversity Scholarship funded by the State Bar’s ChangeLawyers Foundation and matched by AABA members/donors;
  • The $20,000 Charles and Melita Jung Charitable Fund Public Interest Grant, matched  by the Foundation and AABA members; and

  • The $10,000 Raymond L. Ocampo Jr. Justice Fund Public Interest Grant, matched  by Larry Chew, Millie Jew and Varian, a Siemens Healthineers company.

Our scholarship award recipients will utilize their scholarships to finance their law school education, to provide direct legal support to AANHPI and other underserved communities, or to pursue opportunities to build successful careers in law.
