For over 30 years, the AABA Law Foundation has provided scholarships and grants to law students committed to the Asian Pacific American community. In 2022, the Foundation awarded $100,000 in scholarships and grants including:
Our scholarship award recipients will utilize their scholarships to finance their law school education, to provide direct legal support to APIA and underserved communities, or to pursue opportunities to build successful careers in law. The Foundation will award three public interest grants to community organizations in 2022. Through the generosity of its donors, the Foundation was able to meet a matching challenge from the Charles and Melita Jung Charitable Foundation and awarded $10,000 each to Korean American East Bay Senior Center and Asian Women’s Shelter to support the work they do to advocate for the Asian American community. The Raymond L. Ocampo Jr. Foundation’s $5,000 grant, matched by Larry Chew and Millie Jew and Varian, a Siemens Healthineers company, for a total of $10,000, will be awarded to Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Asian Law Caucus to support their advocacy work with low-income communities. New in 2022, the Foundation announced the availability of four new scholarships for law students. Past AABA Presidents Cedric Chao and Judge Margaret Fujioka (Alameda County) generously committed $100,000 to fund two scholarships each year: the Chao-Fujioka Family Scholarships for Public Law/Government Service and International Law. In 2022, each scholarship will be $5,000. In addition, The Puri Family Scholarship, generously funded by Judge Vedica Puri (San Francisco County), and matched by the Foundation and AABA members, was awarded to an outstanding candidate with a commitment and demonstrated interest to legal and social issues facing women of color. Finally, in the summer 2022, the Foundation will award the $10,000 Justice Harry W. Low Fellowship for a graduating law student who has committed to work in a public interest/public service position, funded by the friends and family of Justice Harry W. Low. The Foundation is grateful for our donors’ generosity. Thank you once again! Your support will provide crucial opportunities to the next generation of APA lawyers dedicated to serving their communities. |
